TOP 5 NETFLIX ORIGINALS YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING

One service I hope I don’t have to ever cut back on is my Netflix service. Not only are there literally thousands of movies to chose from any time of the day or night, the list of original movies and TV series they have is quite impressive.

I thought I would take a few minutes to list my top 5 choices for must see TV Originals only available through Netflix. After you read my choices, be sure to comment and let me know what you think and if you may have different choices of your own.
#5. 13 REASONS WHY: This Original has been getting a lot of media buzz lately and seems that everyone is either talking about or watching this series. A show about a teen named Clay Jensen (played by Dylan Minnette) who endeavors on a discovery as to why a fellow student committed suicide. Sounds like a load of fun huh? Well, despite the depressing premise, this series does address a lot of issues young people deal with these days and along with a fine cast and great acting, if you can get over the depressing premise, you will enjoy a quality show.
#4 BETWEEN: Between is a story of a town under siege from a mysterious disease that has wiped out everybody except those 21 years old and under. The series explores the power vacuum that results when a government has quarantined a 10-mile diameter area and left the inhabitants to fend for themselves.
A cast of mostly little known young actors does a decent job of making this scary yet plausible story riveting. Where did this strange affliction come from? Why are only people over 21 affected? is the government here to help or cover up a disaster? This is a binge worthy show that unfortunately lasted only 2 seasons, but at least the writers gave fans a conclusion so we don’t suffer without answers as some canceled favorites in the past has done. Also, because it is only 2 seasons, it won’t take all of your down time for a month just to get to the finale.

#3 SANTA CLARITA DIETA couple months back, I asked the hubby if he could find me a zombie movie to watch. I was craving The Walking Dead, which had just wrapped up its season. So he pulled up Netflix and goes to the new series section and found this. Since I love Drew Barrymore, I gave it a shot.

This Netflix-original series is about a married couple who are ambitious realtors, Sheila and Joel, are living a quiet life, raising their teenage daughter in Santa Clarita, California. Their world unexpectedly changes when Sheila gets infected with a zombie virus that leads to scary, yet hilarious outcomes. At first, they try to cover up her new affliction and bumble their way into a complicated situation that upturns their life (more so than the typical zombie affliction of course). The show gets darker and funnier as they try desperately to keep her flesh eating secret from family, friends and their clients (who are not exactly getting what they bargain for).

Over a couple of days of my weekend, we easily binged the entire first season. Very much like a zombie at a vegan retreat, we were starving for more episodes of this great new series. We cant wait for our next taste of this deliciously dark and funny series. Since eating my husbands brains is not a socially acceptable option, it seems that we will just have to wait for the next season of this fabulous show to get our fill. I highly recommend that you get a taste of it yourself.
#2. STRANGER THINGS: One of the hottest shows on in 2016 is about set to premier season 2 to Netflix subscribers. Sort of like a cross between ET and Twin Peaks this is a must watch show for a fan of either of these, or if you are just a science fiction-fantasy-horror fan like I am.
A clear throwback to the 80’s classics that we all were captivated by, Stranger Things is set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into a complex and strange mystery involving top-secret government experiments, evil scientists with lackey tough guy quasi government agents at their command and terrifying supernatural forces. All these forces against a very strange little girl with some unusual gifts and a group of kids plucked right out of a  Goonies movie. This is not only a must see, it is one that the entire family can watch together. In these days, that is not easy to say.
#1 ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK: This show that is currently in its 5th season is currently at the top of my list. From the Emmy winning creator of the hit Showtime series Weeds (Jenji Kohan), this show continues to surprise and thrill me even in the 5th season.
This show is highly critically acclaimed and has weaved its way into modern culture the last few years and I understand why. The story is about a diverse group if inmates serving time in a women’s prison. It combines drama an comedy seamlessly and has made me emotional as many times as it has made me laugh. It continues to stand out as one of my favorite options in a sea f options on Netflix these days.
Well, there ya have it. My current top 5 list of favorite Netflix Original Series to watch. If you guys want more recommendations, give me some feedback and let me know what you guys think. Maybe next time I can cover some of the Original Movies available on Netflix as well, or maybe if you are interested, we can do a top 10 favorite Cable TV shows of all times. What would be some of yours? Game of Thrones (cheers)? The Sopranos? Dexter? Maybe some scifi fans would vote for Stargate SG-1? Who knows, but we can cover what you guys want to know about. I hope yo like this feature story. Have fun and enjoy your shows!

I have actually watched all five of these and I freaking LOVED them! I am actually not a huge fan of the later seasons of Orange is the New Black. I am not sure why, I kind of lost interest a few seasons in? I do plan on giving it another try here soon, as I am almost positive it was from binge watching it too much (I think I burnt myself out on the series)!

You’ve made quiet an impressive and truthful list. Guess what! We have about 3 more months until the next season of Stranger Things comes out!!!!!!! 😀
